How BIPs Shape the EULiST Experience
At EULiST, we believe that real learning happens when diverse perspectives come together to address the challenges shaping our shared future. Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) are at the heart of this vision. By bringing together students and educators from across our partner universities, BIPs transform traditional learning into dynamic, hands-on international collaborations.
More than just short-term courses, these programmes create vibrant spaces where participants solve real-world problems, build lifelong cross-border networks, and experience Europe’s diversity firsthand – both online and on campus. For our academic community, BIPs are a playground for joint innovation, pioneering teaching methods, and deeper research ties.
Explore the impact of our BIP initiatives through the real stories of the students and professionals who make them happen.
Exploring the human and political dimensions of Europe’s energy transition
Students from Jönköping University (Sweden), Rey Juan Carlos University (Spain), and Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology (Finland) are collaborating in the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) Green Governance and Energy Transition (GREET). Through a combination of online collaboration and in-person learning, the programme offers students a unique opportunity to work across borders and disciplines to tackle one of Europe’s most pressing challenges.
The Human Side of Sustainability
The GREET programme focuses on the societal, political, and governance dimensions of the energy transition, demonstrating how sustainability challenges are shaped not only by technology and economics, but also by:
- Democratic participation and social justice
- Competing regional and institutional interests
- Public legitimacy and policy acceptance
Working in international teams, students engage in interactive lectures, group discussions, study visits, and collaborative assignments.
Negotiating Europe’s Energy Future
The highlight of the programme is an immersive role-playing simulation in which participants negotiate a European energy transition strategy for 2035. By representing diverse stakeholder perspectives, students gain first-hand experience in real-world policy negotiation and consensus building.
GREET demonstrates how collaboration between EULiST partner universities creates engaging international learning experiences while strengthening both student mobility and academic cooperation. Building on this success, the teaching team is already preparing future editions and expanding joint academic initiatives.
One of the most valuable aspects of the course is seeing students put theory into practice. Through the role-play simulation, they learn to analyse complex societal challenges, argue from different stakeholder perspectives, and negotiate realistic compromises. For us as teachers, the BIP is an inspiring and rewarding collaboration that opens new opportunities for both education and research.
